Night Driving; Understand the Risks and Take Appropriate Precautions

night-driving-header

In many instances, driving at night is not out of the ordinary and in some cases, depending upon the Principal’s schedule, preferences or proclivities, is the norm. And while fatigue is always a concern when it comes to driving at night, there are other risks that the driver must consider and account for. In fact, while a combination of safety and security risks tends to make vehicle movements the highest risk endeavor a Principal and his or her protectors will engage in on any given day, movements which take place at night may present even greater risks than those which take place during daylight hours.

“The More Technology a Car has, the More Hackable it is…”

The-More-Technology-a-Car-has,-the-More-Hackable-it-is...

While there may not be anything “new” in this video – Charles and his pal Chris performed the remote hack mentioned in the video quite a while ago, and as he notes, once Chrysler was made aware of it the company promptly resolved that particular vulnerability on their particular vehicles – the level of control […]

The Pillars of Driving

Pillars of Driving

Last week, as we wrapped up what, by all accounts, was another successful Protective/Evasive Driving course (our 32nd training delivery of the year) one of the 18 students who participated in the training asked me..

What it is I do when we are not delivering training somewhere in the world?

The answer to that question takes us back to the early ’70’s and the origins of VDI’s predecessor, the Scotti School of Defensive Driving.

The question also points us to what might best be referred to as the pillars of driving.

It’s Unfortunate, But absent a serious, credible threat most Principals are not likely to be very receptive to increased security measures

By Joe Autera Those who’ve attended VDI’s “Best Practices for the Solo Practitioner” course have heard us discuss the fact that absent a serious, credible threat most Principals are not likely to be very receptive to increased security measures; and “serious, credible threat” in the minds of many Principals means that someone in a similar […]

The Very First Question Every Newcomer Ought to be Asking

Do you have it?

Having been involved in the EP profession in one form or another for quite some time now, it astounds me how often newcomers are asking the same questions over and over again, particularly on social media outlets. Now, there is a very real possibility – and some strong indications – that a fair amount of what’s happening in terms of the same basic questions being asked repeatedly is, in fact, actually a high tech form of “astro turfing”. That’s where someone with a vested interest in the response to a given question creates a digital “alter ego”, or uses a surrogate, to ask a particular question and then offers up a response that meets their objective.

Surveillance Detection a Practical Perspective

Surveillance Detection: a Practical Perspective

Recognizing that while the Solo Practitioner approach – where one protection practitioner is responsible for managing the wide range of risks their Principal may face – is not the optimum approach to doing so, it is in fact being effectively implemented far more often and successfully than many in the profession would care to admit, it’s worthwhile to take a closer look at the strategies and tactics which contribute to the effectiveness of the Solo Practitioner paradigm.
