What We Do – The Science of Forensic Driving

For decades we have used a method of instruction our students have labeled “The Science of Forensic Driving”. Forensic science and engineering are used to determine the cause of a particular and undesirable incident. Including those involving human factors and catastrophic events, it involves the technical evaluation of those conditions and the application of engineering principals to determine the cause of such failures. In our case, those failures are vehicle accidents and/or attacks.

Forensics is a science-based on the Laws of Physics which cannot be altered by an individual or organization. Makes no difference what type of vehicle is being driven or evaluated, nor does it matter why it’s being driven or who is driving it, the vehicle/driver combination must operate within the laws of physics. All driving, no matter how simple or complex, is an exercise in the laws of physics.

Everything Vehicle Dynamics Institute does is based on a determined, rigorous, disciplined approach to determine the problem that causes the event – from that we supply skill sets based on forensic data – not on guesswork – we test all scenarios for accuracy – measure max speed – path the vehicle takes – vehicle performance – desired output from the scenario – and come up with the cause of the event followed by the solution.

In every scenario a student moves through, we collect data and measure their ability to reach the solution of the event, and as importantly they will know why the solution was successful. Students must reach a minimum standard as determined by the mission.

An accident or vehicle ambush is a sequence of events that create a complex problem. If the science of forensics is not used for driver training, it creates ill-informed opinions and unfortunately, those who have ill-informed opinions will often seek a simple solution to a complex problem. When considering the lifesaving skills that need to be taught, driver training cannot be based on personal opinion or unsubstantiated doctrine.

Surveillance Detection a Practical Perspective

Surveillance Detection: a Practical Perspective

Recognizing that while the Solo Practitioner approach – where one protection practitioner is responsible for managing the wide range of risks their Principal may face – is not the optimum approach to doing so, it is in fact being effectively implemented far more often and successfully than many in the profession would care to admit, it’s worthwhile to take a closer look at the strategies and tactics which contribute to the effectiveness of the Solo Practitioner paradigm.
