Just How Far Will a Run Flat Run, If a Run Flat Must Run

flats over

As many of our longstanding clients in the corporate, law enforcement and government/military sectors know, Tony Scotti’s Vehicle Dynamics Institute – more commonly known as VDI – is often called upon to test and evaluate the performance of various types of vehicles as well as aftermarket equipment that may impact that performance. Earlier this year VDI was approached by the manufacturer of a run flat device to independently run how well the device would perform in adverse conditions.

The Pillars of Driving

Pillars of Driving

Last week, as we wrapped up what, by all accounts, was another successful Protective/Evasive Driving course (our 32nd training delivery of the year) one of the 18 students who participated in the training asked me..

What it is I do when we are not delivering training somewhere in the world?

The answer to that question takes us back to the early ’70’s and the origins of VDI’s predecessor, the Scotti School of Defensive Driving.

The question also points us to what might best be referred to as the pillars of driving.

All of the Protective Intelligence, Situational Awareness, and Tactical Capability in the World May Not Matter (Part II)

vdi-part-2-3

As we touched upon in the first part of this article, a lack of training which focuses specifically on developing and improving both the capacity and capability to perform decision making tasks under stress places the practitioner at a significant disadvantage.

All of the Protective Intelligence, Situational Awareness, and Tactical Capability in the World May Not Matter (Part I)

vdi-part1-1

Clearly there are some very good reasons why protective intelligence, situational awareness, and tactical skill are universally recognized as essential to providing effective protection. However, regardless of how accurate and timely your protective intelligence is, how high a level of situational awareness you are capable of achieving and sustaining, or how tactically and technically proficient you may be with firearms, edged weapons, impact weapons, or even vehicles, success or failure for the protection practitioner is most often predicated upon the decisions they make, particularly in the eyes of the Principal. While it may not be spelled out in one’s job description, the very nature of protection work implies that one must be able make sound decisions in highly stressful situations and very dynamic environments.

Solo Practitioner; the Who, What, Where & When of Providing One-On-One Protection

Solo Practitioner

As many of you know, we are winding down from a rather hectic two months of training delivery while, in the meantime, preparing for our final open enrollment Protective/Evasive Driving Course of the year. Over the last week or so we have also been taking advantage of the opportunity to examine what lessons learned, or […]

Surveillance Detection a Practical Perspective

Surveillance Detection: a Practical Perspective

Recognizing that while the Solo Practitioner approach – where one protection practitioner is responsible for managing the wide range of risks their Principal may face – is not the optimum approach to doing so, it is in fact being effectively implemented far more often and successfully than many in the profession would care to admit, it’s worthwhile to take a closer look at the strategies and tactics which contribute to the effectiveness of the Solo Practitioner paradigm.
