Welcome, My Friend, to Karjackistan!

KarjackistanTM is a place where all of the challenges and hazards of driving on the mean streets of cities and towns around the world converge, from errant pedestrians to potential accidents and deliberate ambushes. KarjackistanTM has a lot of some things – most of all surprises and stressors – and very little of some others, such as time, distance, and maneuvering room.  No matter what the driver encounters on their trip through KarjackistanTM, the key to success is the same as it is everywhere else in the world – RECOGNIZE the problem, RESPOND quickly, MAINTAIN CONTROL and get through the problem as quickly as possible.

Some of the scenarios VDI’s students may encounter in one of VDI’s Karjackistan Advanced Driver Training (KADT) course include….

This exercise, which is intended to hone the skills needed to maintain control of a vehicle while reversing out of a bad situation, places the student at a checkpoint or roadblock in which the path forward is blocked and the path backward is the only viable escape route and they must put time and distance between themselves and a potential threat by driving in reverse while avoiding the “vehicle” blocking their path.

The scenario for this exercise places the driver in a blind corner, where what’s around the corner is unknown to the driver and the surest way to invite trouble is to stop the car. With just the three tools every driver has at their disposable – the steering wheel, the brake pedal, and the gas pedal – VDI’s students must solve the challenges presented by a continually changing environment.

The cumulative skills exercise is the capstone to VDI’s Karjackistan Advanced Driver Training courses and incorporates a series of increasingly complex exercises, complemented by external stressors, that require the student to demonstrate that they can effectively operate a vehicle at or near its performance limits while contending with various levels and types of stress.

Surveillance Detection a Practical Perspective

Surveillance Detection: a Practical Perspective

Recognizing that while the Solo Practitioner approach – where one protection practitioner is responsible for managing the wide range of risks their Principal may face – is not the optimum approach to doing so, it is in fact being effectively implemented far more often and successfully than many in the profession would care to admit, it’s worthwhile to take a closer look at the strategies and tactics which contribute to the effectiveness of the Solo Practitioner paradigm.
