For many professional drivers and protectors, driving at night is not out of the ordinary. In fact, in many cases, it’s the rule as opposed to the exception. And while the combination of safety and security risks tends to make vehicle movements the highest risk activity the typical Principal is likely to engage in on any given day, numerous studies show that those risks are significantly higher at night – as much as 60% higher when it comes to fatal crashes.
With that in mind, and in keeping with VDI’s longstanding commitment to continually invest in our students’ professional success, we are pleased to announce that students participating in VDI’s world-renown Protective/Evasive Driving and Protective/Evasive Driving Refresher courses will now have the option of incorporating the Night Driving Module to create a customized solution that meets their specific needs.
This module was designed and developed specifically to provide the participants the knowledge, skill, and ability to maximize their effectiveness, and minimize the increased risks when they are behind the wheel between dusk until dawn.
The focal points of this exceptionally practical training, which is conducted during the evening hours of the second day of select three-day courses (and/or the first day of select two-day refresher courses), consists of a series of complex, challenging practical exercises, include:
- Understanding how low light/no light conditions impact driving
- Identifying potential risks at maximum distances
- Adjusting focal points and scanning patterns to improve vision
- Techniques for reducing the risk of “overdriving” the headlights
- Managing and recovering from the effects of glare
- Minimizing core reaction time in low light/no light conditions
VDI now offers the Night Driving module in all our open enrollment programs.
Night Driving Module Add-on: $ 125.00
Seating is limited to ensure participants are afforded ample drive time to develop and refine their night driving skills and will be conducted utilizing the same type of vehicle (i.e. sedan, SUV, or armored SUV) students requested for their core training.
