Chief Instructor
Chad retired from full-time employment with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office after 30 years of service at the rank of Lieutenant. During his tenure there, he served in various units, including detention, patrol, and motorcycle, as well as a number of specialized assignments, including SWAT and Rescue Swimmer with the Maritime Division. Additionally, during high-tempo risk periods, he was assigned as the Security Driver to various public officials.
For 13 years of his law enforcement career, he was an EVOC Instructor, and for the last 12 years was the Sheriff’s Office Driver Training Director. He is a graduate of multiple defensive, evasive, and emergency vehicle operations instructor development and train-the-trainer courses, including:
- NAPD Tactical Police Driving Instructor
- Vehicle Dynamics Institute Protective/Evasive Driving Course
- Vehicle Dynamics Institute Law Enforcement Instructor Development Course
- Vehicle Dynamics Institute Patrol Vehicle Ambush Survival Skills Instructor
- Baker Defensive Tactics Vehicle Centric Defensive Tactics Instructor
In addition to his work with VDI, Mr. Ruiz continues his service with the EBRPSO as a part-time civilian assigned to the Driver Training Unit, where he continues to design, develop, and deliver a wide range of innovative driving courses, including basic EVOC, in-service EVOC, Patrol Vehicle Ambush Survival Skills, as well as other specialized driving and vehicle-centric tactical courses.
